Forsyth Tech Launches New Esports Program with First Tryout Event
Forsyth Technical Community College kicked off its newly established Esports program with a bang, hosting its first-ever tryout event for students interested in competitive gaming. The event, held last week, featured 18 enthusiastic participants who battled it out in Marvel Rivals, a popular fighting game that combines fast-paced action with iconic Marvel characters.
The tryouts were a major milestone for Forsyth Tech's growing commitment to the expanding world of Esports. Students from various backgrounds came together to showcase their skills, competing in a series of intense matches to earn spots on the college's official Esports team.
"We're excited to be offering this opportunity to our students," said Kevin McCann, Forsyth Tech Esports Coordinator. "Esports is not just about gaming; it's about building teamwork, strategic thinking, and leadership—skills that are transferable to many fields. This is just the beginning, and we're looking forward to what the future holds."
The event was not only a test of individual skill but also a chance for participants to bond, share strategies, and get a glimpse of the growing potential of Esports within higher education. With professional Esports leagues and scholarships on the rise, Forsyth Tech's initiative reflects the increasing relevance of competitive gaming in the academic world.
For now, the students who competed in Marvel Rivals have set the bar high, showcasing their talent and passion for gaming in this inaugural event. Future tryouts are scheduled and you can find more information on the Forsyth Tech Esports Discord Server (https://short.forsythtech.edu/esports).
