Forsyth Tech Falls to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute 93-81
HUDSON, N.C. – Forsyth Tech (13-2) fell 93-81 on the road to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Saturday afternoon in NJCAA Region 10 play. The Trailblazers trailed by just three points at halftime, but were unable to overcome second-half foul trouble and cold perimeter shooting.
The opening half saw both teams trade baskets, with Forsyth Tech keeping pace thanks to early contributions from Darnerian Gibson and Cal Barrett. The Trailblazers went into the locker room down 39-36, positioned within striking distance.
The game shifted in the second half as Caldwell capitalized on Forsyth Tech's foul issues, with two key players—Kyri Wilson and Ian Bush—disqualified due to fouls. Caldwell went on a scoring run and outscored the Trailblazers 54-45 after the break, pulling away in the late stages. Despite battling on the glass with 38 total rebounds and generating second-chance opportunities, Forsyth Tech could not close the gap, hindered by 28 team fouls and just 21 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Darnerian Gibson led Forsyth Tech with 20 points and eight rebounds, adding three assists. Cal Barrett finished with 16 points, five rebounds and two steals, shooting 50 percent from the field. Kyri Wilson provided 14 points and a team-high six assists before fouling out. Off the bench, Ian Bush contributed 10 points and four rebounds, while Kevonta Martin added defensive energy with three steals and six points.
While the loss snapped Forsyth Tech's win streak, the team will look to regroup and address areas for improvement such as three-point shooting and foul discipline as they continue Region 10 play.
