Forsyth Tech Falls in Heartbreaker at Bryant & Stratton Despite Offensive Showcase
Cal Barrett scores 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three, Jasean Williams nears a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Forsyth Tech (17-4) came up just short in a high-scoring NJCAA Region 10 showdown on Wednesday night, falling 80-75 to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on the road. The Trailblazers led at halftime and lit up the scoreboard from beyond the arc but were edged out in a furious second-half rally by the Bobcats.
Both offenses were clicking from the opening tip, with Forsyth Tech and Bryant & Stratton trading baskets and three-pointers throughout the first half. The Trailblazers built momentum behind crisp ball movement and hot shooting, carrying a 37-35 advantage into the break. The pace intensified in the second half as Bryant & Stratton capitalized on second-chance points and frequent trips to the free-throw line, outscoring Forsyth 45-38 over the final 20 minutes.
Despite Forsyth Tech shooting a blistering 46.4 percent from three-point range (13-for-28) and getting a career night from Cal Barrett, the Bobcats' size and rebounding kept them in contention. Bryant & Stratton grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, leading to crucial second-chance buckets that swung the momentum late. Free-throw disparity also played a role, with the home team converting 17 attempts at the line compared to just 8 for Forsyth, a key difference in a tightly contested five-point game.
Cal Barrett powered Forsyth with 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including an elite 6-for-8 from deep, while adding 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Jasean Williams was all over the stat sheet, tallying 9 points, 9 rebounds (with 4 on the offensive glass), 4 assists and 3 steals. Playmaker Kyri Wilson dished out a game-high 7 assists, chipped in 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, while Darnerian Gibson provided a lift off the bench with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting.
For Bryant & Stratton, Jalen Milt led all scorers with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Kylan Clark posted a double-double of his own with 15 points and 11 boards. Both teams struggled with turnovers—Forsyth committed 18 versus 23 for the Bobcats—but Bryant & Stratton's edge on the glass and at the line proved decisive down the stretch.
