Trailblazers Split Region 10 Contests
It was a week of high-octane drama and physical grit for the Forsyth Tech Men's Basketball team. From a bruising road victory to a heart-wrenching "Pink Out" thriller at home, the Trailblazers battled through Region 10 play last week.
Road Warriors: Grit and Grind in Sanford
Last Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Trailblazers traveled to Sanford to face Central Carolina Community College in what proved to be a textbook Region 10 slugfest. This wasn't a game for the faint of heart; it was a physical, high-contact battle from the jump.
Ultimately, Forsyth Tech's depth and defensive tenacity wore down the Cougars, leading to a decisive 80-66 road win.
Key Performers:
-
Darnerian Gibson: Led the charge with a relentless 23 points, slicing through the defense and hitting clutch shots when the game got tight.
-
Jayden Ross: Provided a double-threat performance with 14 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
-
Ian Bush: Finsihed with 13 points and a made some big shots in the second half.
-
Kyri Wilson: Acted as the floor general, navigating the pressure to dish out a team-high 8 assists.
-
Cal Barrett: Matched Ross on the glass with 7 rebounds, ensuring the Trailblazers won the second-chance points battle.
Heartbreak in the "Pink Out" Game
On Friday, Feb. 13, the atmosphere in the gym was electric as the Trailblazers hosted Davidson-Davie Community College. The stands were a sea of pink as the community gathered to raise funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, supporting the fight against cancer.
On the court, the game was just as spirited. It was a heavyweight bout featuring multiple lead changes and maximum effort from both squads. Forsyth Tech fought until the final buzzer, but they ultimately came up just a single point short, falling 85-84.
While the loss stung, the effort displayed by the team and the generosity of the fans made the night a success for a cause much larger than basketball. We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who came out to support the team and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Your energy made a difference!
The Road Ahead: Finishing Strong
Despite the Friday night setback, the Trailblazers remain in first place in the conference.
The schedule narrows down to the final four games of the regular season—two at home and two on the road. The final push begins this Wednesday as the team travels to take on Southwest Virginia Community College.
