Forsyth Tech Edges Bryant & Stratton in Gritty Conference Battle
Darnerian Gibson scores 22 points with 4 steals; Kevonta Martin adds 16 points and 6 rebounds off the bench, and Jayden Ross calls game at the free throw line in a clutch win.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Forsyth Tech (23-5) battled to a narrow 76-74 victory over Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Saturday at West Campus, holding off a furious second-half charge to notch a crucial NJCAA Region 10 regular season win.
Forsyth Tech wasted no time imposing its will early, building a lead behind strong defensive pressure and aggressive play in the paint. The Trailblazers surged ahead by eight points at halftime, up 41-33, thanks to their willingness to attack the rim and get to the free throw line. Bryant & Stratton, however, refused to go away, closing the gap in a tense second half and outscoring Forsyth Tech 41-35 after the break.
With the game on the line in the final minutes, Forsyth Tech maintained its composure. Key defensive stops, timely rebounds and clutch free throws proved pivitol in the second half. The team held off the visitors at the final buzzer with freshman Jayden Ross sinking a pair of game winning free throws with six seconds left on the clock. Forsyth Tech's ability to force turnovers and convert at the line—finishing 22-for-33 at the stripe—made the difference in a game where every possession mattered.
Darnerian Gibson led the charge, dropping 22 points and swiping four steals to set the tone on both ends. Gibson's relentless attack resulted in nine made free throws out of 12 attempts and helped fuel the Trailblazers from the opening tip. Off the bench, Kevonta Martin delivered a breakout performance, pouring in 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting and tying for the team lead with six rebounds. Jayden Ross added a well-rounded effort with 15 points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists, while Cal Barrett anchored the paint with three blocks.
