Forsyth Tech men’s basketball clinches Region 10 regular season championship with 74-62 win over Pitt Community College
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Forsyth Tech's men's basketball team clinched the Region 10 regular season championship Wednesday night with a 74-62 victory over Pitt Community College in the final game of the season.
With the win, the Trailblazers close the regular season – their first – with a record of 25-5 overall, 19-3 in conference play and 17-2 within the region. The championship marks a major achievement for the program as it continues to build momentum in Region 10 competition. Forsyth Tech controlled the pace throughout much of the contest and pulled away late to secure the 12-point win. The home crowd celebrated as the final buzzer sounded, confirming the Trailblazers as Region 10 regular season champions.
Head Coach Lucas Hunter credited his team's consistency and focus throughout the year. "I'm proud of how this group competed all season," Hunter said. "They bought in early, trusted each other and stayed locked in on our goals. To finish the regular season this way says a lot about their work ethic and toughness."
"Winning a Region 10 Championship in our very first season is an extraordinary milestone for our program and for Forsyth Tech Athletics," said Shelly Barnes, Director of Athletics at the college. "This moment shows what can happen when belief, preparation, and commitment all come together at the right time. From day one, our student-athletes bought into a vision that was bigger than themselves, and they've represented our college and our community with pride every step of the way."
The 25-win season reflects the team's balance on both ends of the floor. Forsyth Tech proved strong at home and on the road, stacking key conference victories that positioned the Trailblazers at the top of the standings heading into the final week of play.
"This team has shown resilience all year," Hunter added. "They've handled pressure well and continued to improve each game. Winning the regular season title is something they earned."
Forsyth Tech Director of Athletics Shelly Barnes pointed to the culture established under Coach Hunter as a key factor in the team's success. "I cannot say enough about the leadership of Coach Hunter. What he has built in such a short time goes far beyond wins and losses. He has established a culture rooted in accountability, toughness, and unity, and our players have responded in an incredible way. His ability to connect with our student-athletes, challenge them, and bring out their best has been the driving force behind this historic season.
Barnes also said the impacts of this championship go beyond the final record, "This championship also reflects the support we've received across campus and throughout the community. From our administration to our fans, donors, and partners, this has truly been a collective effort."
The college launched its first NJCAA-sanctioned teams in the 2025-26 academic year, after an extensive feasibility study gauging student and community interest. The first sports were women's volleyball (which also finished with winning record -- 15-8 overall), esports and men's basketball. Since this is the team's first season in NJCAA play, they are unable to participate in the tournament – but Barnes is optimistic about the future. "To see it all come together in year one is something special - and it sets the standard for what Trailblazer basketball can and will be moving forward."
