Travis Holcomb-Faye

Bio

Travis Holcomb-Faye was named an assistant basketball coach at Forsyth Technical Community College on April 18, 2025, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the local basketball community to the Trailblazers' coaching staff.

"I am excited to work with Travis every day as we build this program," Head Coach Lucas Hunter said upon Holcomb-Faye's hiring. "Travis has played at the level all of our student-athletes strive to get to and will be a great mentor for them. He has tremendous ties to the basketball community across North Carolina and will instantly impact our recruiting efforts."

Holcomb-Faye made an immediate impact during the program's historic first season, helping guide the Trailblazers to a standout 25-5 overall record. Forsyth Tech captured the NJCAA Region 10 Division II Regular Season Championship with a 19-3 conference record, earning the coaching staff Region 10 Coach of the Year honors for their leadership in establishing a culture of excellence both on the court and in the classroom.

Under Holcomb-Faye's mentorship and player development efforts, several Trailblazers earned major postseason accolades. Standout guard Darnerian Gibson garnered NJCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-America honors alongside Region 10 Freshman of the Year, Region 10 Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Region honors. Point guard Kyri Wilson earned Third Team All-Region accolades after leading all of Region 10 in assists per game, while forward Cal Barrett was also named Third Team All-Region.

In line with the staff's commitment to advancing players to four-year institutions, three members of the inaugural squad transitioned to the NCAA Division II level: Barrett moved on to Young Harris College, Taky Prosper signed with American International College, and Justin Geter committed to Winston-Salem State University. Off the court, the program achieved high academic standards, earning recognition as an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recipient.

Prior to joining Forsyth Tech, Holcomb-Faye served as the head coach of the Winston-Salem Christian School Regional men's basketball team starting in 2020. During his tenure with the Lions, he compiled an overall record of 131-48 while capturing three conference championships, two conference tournament titles, and a CAA4SC State Championship. From 2016 to 2020, Holcomb-Faye was the head coach at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, leading the Mustangs to a 65-41 record, playoff appearances in all four seasons, a conference tournament championship, and a Frank Spencer Championship title.

A prominent figure in the summer grassroots circuit, Holcomb-Faye founded Team Winston and has won two AAU National Championships as a coach and one as a player. A native of Winston-Salem, he was a standout prep player at R.J. Reynolds High School under legendary coach Howard West, scoring over 1,000 points and earning induction into the R.J. Reynolds Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.

Holcomb-Faye played collegiately at East Carolina University from 1999 to 2003, where he ranks fourth all-time in career assists for the Pirates. He went on to play two seasons of professional basketball in the ABA before earning his Bachelor of Science in University Studies with a concentration in sports and media services from ECU in 2021.
