Trailblazers Volleyball Forges Identity in Historic 15-8 Inaugural Season
The final whistle has blown on the 2025 season, and the inaugural Forsyth Tech Trailblazers volleyball team has officially set the bar. In a remarkable debut, the team finished with an impressive 15-8 record, a significant achievement for any new program.
But for Head Coach Sarah Weavil and her squad, the season's true victory wasn't just the wins; it was the construction of a culture from the ground up.
"Starting this program from scratch came with a lot of challenges," Coach Weavil reflected. "The biggest one was establishing a culture and identity before we even had results to point to. We had to get players, parents, and even the community to believe in a vision that didn't have a track record yet."
That challenge also proved to be the most rewarding. "The toughest part and also the most rewarding would be turning a group of individuals into a team," Weavil said. "Those early challenges really shaped the foundation of who we are now."
In a first-year program, success is often measured differently. For Coach Weavil, the goal was always bigger than the scoreboard.
"Beyond the wins and losses, I measure success this season by the growth and culture we've built," she explained. "My main goal was to establish a foundation — to see if our players would buy into the standards, learn how to compete the right way, and support one another through the ups and downs."
The team answered that call. As the season progressed, a transformation took place. A group that started as a collection of talented individuals began to forge a singular identity.
"Over the last few months, I watched them forge an identity built on accountability, resilience, and connection," Weavil said. "They learned to hold each other to high standards while also supporting one another through challenges."
According to Weavil, the turning point came when the players began to define success for themselves.
"What really stood out was how the team began to define success for themselves — not by wins or statistics, but by the quality of their effort, communication, and composure under pressure," Weavil shared. "That mindset shift... gave us a true identity: a team that's gritty, selfless, and relentless, no matter the circumstance."
That hard-earned identity is now the cornerstone of the program. As Coach Weavil looks toward the offseason, the priority is clear.
"Our number one priority is continuing to raise the standard," she stated. "We want to build on the culture this first group established — one rooted in hard work, accountability, and togetherness — while adding more depth and competition to our roster through recruiting."
This 2025 team has done more than win 15 games. They have laid a powerful foundation for every player who will wear the Trailblazers uniform in the future.
"They set the tone for what it means to wear this uniform — how we train, how we communicate, and how we respond to adversity," Weavil concluded. "Because of what this first team accomplished, future groups will step into a program that already has an identity, a standard, and a belief that we can compete with anyone."
