Trailblazers Volleyball Opens Inaugural Season with Blowout Win
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – History was made on the court as the Forsyth Tech Trailblazers women's volleyball team soared to victory in their very first official match. Led by Head Coach Sarah Weavil, the Trailblazers defeated the Carolina University JV team in a blowout, taking the match 3 sets to 0.
The atmosphere in the gymnasium was electric as the Trailblazers stepped onto the court, marking a significant milestone for Forsyth Tech athletics. The team showcased impressive teamwork and individual talent throughout the match, securing a memorable inaugural win.
Key players contributed significantly to the Trailblazers' success. Emma Willard anchored the defense with an impressive 10 digs, while Karlie Huffman proved to be a force on both offense and defense, racking up a remarkable 9 aces and dishing out 13 assists. Leading the offensive charge was Emma Sechrist with 9 kills, supported by Lilly Winslow and Jade Matias, who each contributed 4 kills. Matias also added a crucial block to the team's defensive efforts. Sophia Blackledge made her presence felt at the net with 2 kills and 2 blocks, and Jade Bullins added to the Trailblazers' serving dominance with 3 aces.
Head Coach Sarah Weavil was understandably emotional and proud following the historic win. "First match was so surreal. You cannot help but get emotional over the moment. Everything that our staff and players have worked hard for is finally here. I believe that our girls did great! Of course like every coach will say we have some little things to fix and polish up but I could not have asked for a better first match."
The Trailblazers' opening victory marks an exciting start to their inaugural season. Fans can look forward to more thrilling matches as the team continues to build on this start. The team is on the road for their next contest, on Tuesday, August 26, at Guilford Tech, before returning home on Thursday night to play Patrick & Henry.
